AUSTRALIANS IN ENGLAND.

Match Against Notts. DULL PLAY ON RESUMPTION. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received July 8, 1.35 a.m.) LONDON, July 7. The weather was fine but dull for the resumption of the match Australia v. Notts. The wicket was good. The teams are:— Nottingham—G. Gunn (captain), W. W. Whysall, W. Walker, W. Payton, B. Lilley, A. Staples, S. Rhodes, H. Larwood, F. Barratt, S. Staples, and W. Voce. Australia—W. H. Ponsford. A. Jackson, J. McCabe, A. Kippax, V. Y. Richardson, J. Fairfax, E. L. a’Beckett, A. Hurwood, C. Walker, T. M. Wall, P M. Hornibrook. Oldfield was fielding instead of Fairfax, whose boil threatens to become an abscess, and may keep him out of the next Test. His absence would further weaken the Australian attack. Wall and a’Beckett opened' the bowling-, to Gunn and Whysall, the batsmen adding only nine runs in twenty minutes. Wall allowed them to score when and where they liked, as he had neither length nor pace. The batsmen were seventy-five minutes scoring fifty. Hurwood broke the partnership in the last ball of his first over. Gunn gave Wall a tame catch in the slips, ending the dullest knock. Following are the scores:— AUSTRALIA. First Innings. Total for one wickets ...... 65 THIRD TEST MATCH. CHANGES IN ENGLISH TEAM. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, July 6. England’s team for the Third Test will be: A. P. F. Chapman (Kent, captain). J. B. Hobbs (Surrey). H. Sutcliffe (Yorkshire). W. R. Hammond (Gloucestershire). K. S. Duleepsinjhi (Sussex). M. Leyland (Yorkshire). M. W. Tate (Sussex), i H. Larwood (Notts). G. Geary (Gloucestershire). R. Tyldesley (Lancashire). G. Duckworth (Lancashire) - . Twelfth Man: E. R. Hendren (Middlesex). Comment on Selection. Mr P. F. Warner, writing in the “Morning Post," states that the English Test team is in accordance with expectations, though many would have preferred Freeman to Tyldesley. Neither was successful in Australia, but both are fine bowlers on English wickets. The passing of Woolley is to be regretted. He is still a great batsman. Hendren is certainly a most distinguished occupant of the position of twelfth man. The wicket at Leeds is apt to crumble, so that the winner of the toss will have a big initial advantage.
