CANCER MENACE.
WHAT STATISTICS REVEAL. A table showing the mortality due to cancerous diseases has been compiled by Mr G. S. Cray, of Timaru. This shows that of a total of 11,811 deaths in 1928, no fewer than 1374 were caused by cancer. The most significant feature of the figures revealed by the Official Year Book is that the high percentage of deaths from cancer from the age of 30 years upwards. From 30 to 35 years the deaths from this fell disease are one in 19; from 35 to 40 they are one in every 12; 40 to 45 one in eight; 45 to 50 one in six; 50 to 55 one in five; 55 to 60 one in five; 60 to 65 one in five; 65 to 75 one in every five and a-half; 75 to 80 one in six and a half, and over 80 one in every thirteen.
