SPORTING.

RICCARTON TRACK NOTES. (Special to the "Herald.”) CHRISTCHURCH, July 1. The weather was fine but cold for training operations at Rlccarton this morning. • Horses with engagements at the Wellington meeting provided the chief Interest. The tw r o-year-old filly Kakaua, was allowed to run along at a smart pace for three furlongs. The Viscount, and his two-year-old brother, Gustavo, moved freely in a half mile sprint. Gustavo, who has been kept in steady work since the autumn, should be ready to show good ' form early in the new season, j First Sight strode over half a mile In 52 2-ssec, whilst Limerick occupied 52 4-ssec for a similar task. Both could have done better. Gold Mint (L. Evans) was schooled over five hurdles. He went at a moderate pace and Jumped safely, though very slowly. Gay Crest and Adelphi were associated in a spin over five furlongs, in lmin 3 3-ssec. Gay Crest was going very well at the finish and promises to be in good order for spring engagements. Miss Bradbury showed her customary brilliancy in a half mile dash. She should be in good order for the Aui gust carnival. Tuku went well over five furlongs, in lmin ssec. He looks in good fettle for his races at Trentham. Desert Song covered six furlongs by himself in lmin 19 2-ssec and did it well. He has made excellent progress since he raced in South Canterbury. Dunraven and Craigavon were well matched over five furlongs. Then went practically from a stand, taking lmin 5 2-ssec for the full journey and doing the last half mile in 51sec. F. D. Jones will take them north for the second and third days at Trentham. Lord Ranald, after some exercise in the centre, was allowed to run along for a mile. He went at a sound pace, doing the first half in 54sec and completing the full journey in lmin 49sec. Arrowmir galloped five furlongs alone and moved freely, without being asked to do his best. He looks well and it is probable he wall make his next appearance at the Waimate Hunt meeting. Subdivision broke away from the seven furlong post about four lengths in front of Ranelagh. He held his lead for the first three furlongs, but a furlong further on Ranelagh caught him and went on to win by several , lengths in lmin 30sec. It was a useful effort for Ranelagh, who ran the first part very fast, but Subdivision went disappointingly. Painkiller had Lord Thomond as a mate in a five furlong spin. They kept together in the early part but Lord Thomond drew away at the end, winning easily in lmin ssec, the last half mile taking 51 4-ssec. Painkiller is due for a trip to Trentham, where she is engaged on the second and third days. j Radiate was given strong work on the sand and got through his task j well. j Troilus and Master Clarence were I companions in useful work over five furlongs. They will be racing at Trentham next week. Troilus is very well, , while Master Clarence is coming on nicely, though backward at present. ! Haze went once round, finishing at a sound pace over the last five furlongs, while Ken.*sh Lady, Rascal and i Royal Mint were given useful work. | Marco Polo (I. Tilson) was schooled over eight of the steeplechase fences at a sound pace and jumped well, though ; he ran down some of the fences. ' Amorist was given a working gallop over seven furlongs. He is in capital order for Trentham. Kulrange (I. Tilson) jumped safely in a school over the fences, j Semper Paratus and Hurly Burly. ! two candidates for Trentham, were not galloped till the afternoon, when i they did strong work about six 1 furiongs.
