CROSSING SIGNALS.
RAILWAY DEPARTMENT'S CLAIM. | By Telegraph—Frees Association. j WELLINGTON, June 19. | In reply to a statement made at Wanganui that the Railway Department had done nothing to protect crossings, the Department challenges the accuracy. It is stated that the Transport Conference had before it a few months ago a design for a portable notice with the word “stop” in reflecting letters. This was approved by the Conference, but the material had to be sent for to construct these notices, and has not yet arrived. So far from doing nothing, the Department contends that it has been very active in the matter.
