LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION.
DOMINION CONFERENCE. TO BE HELD IN TIMARU. The Dominion Conference of the League of Nations Union will open in the Municipal Chambers, Timaru, on June 11, and will be continued on the 12tta and 13th. Delegates from all parts of New Zealand will be present. The visiting delegates will include:— Rev. Jas. Gibb, D.D. (president of the New Zealand branch of the Union); Mrs K. Evans, M.A. (secretary of the New Zealand branch), and Mr W. Nash, M.P. The various branches will be represented as follows: — Wellington—Mrs McEldowney (president), Mesdames Henderson, Maslen, and Anderson. Gisborne —Mr T. Todd. Waipawa—Rev. J. Pigott. Auckland—Mr Seth Smith. Christchurch—Messrs R. M. Laing, M.A., B.Sc. (president), G. Manning, B.A. (secretary). Oamaru —Mr F. Milner, M.A., 0.8. E. Invercargill—Messrs A. E. Featherstone and W. Macalister. Dunedin—Rev. H. E. Bellhouse (president), Dr. A. G. B. Fisher (Professor of Economics), Dr. J. W. Mullins, Mr F. Jones, Mrs W. Bridgman, Mrs Denton Leech (secretary), Rev. E. S. Tuckwell, Rev. A. Astor, 8.A., Mr A. Burn, B.A. Timaru —Rev. P. Gladstone Hughes, B.A. (president), Messrs A. Inglis, M.A., J. T. Brady and Mrs B. H. Low, M.A. (vice-presidents), Mr F. J. Rolleston, Mr W. Thomas, M.A., and Rev. Clyde Carr, M.P. (patrons), Rev. H. T. Peat, Mesdames C. E. Shallcrass, Robjohns and Flood, Miss Shirtcliffe (hon. secretary), Messrs A. C. Murray, G. T. Koller, R. Stewart and F. H. Ferguson. Miss Talbot is secretary for a group at Fairlie, and Mrs F. Smith is secretary for a group at Otipua. These groups are worked in conjunction with Timaru.
The delegates are to arrive at 3 p.m. on June 11, and will be accorded a civic reception. In the evening a public lecture will be given in Chalmers Hall.
During the Conference, the following lectures will be given:—“League of Nations and the Churches,” Rev. J. Gibb; “League of Nations and New Zealand,” Mr T. Todd; “League of Nations and the Schools,” Mr F. Milner; “League of Nations and the Workers,” Mr W. Nash, M.P.
It is hoped to arrange for a lecture to be given in Temuka during the Conference.
