REVENUE DEFICIT
POSITION OF HOSPITALS. By Telegraph—Press Association. FOXTON, May 31. Speaking at a public function last night, Mr J. K. Hornblow, chairman of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, made reference to the £3,000,000 anticipated deficit in the Government revenue for the current financial year, as stated by the Prime Minister, and touched on a possible reduction in hospital subsidies. “There is nothing which will prevent sickness,” said Mr Hornblow. and the indigent and destitute will always be with us. It is our duty to look after them, and if the Government, by reason of a fall in revenue, curtails hospital subsidies, either for capital or maintenance purposes, the levies on the contributing authorities will increase, if the present efficiency is to be maintained. As it is, hospitals arc paying considerable sums to maintain unemployed and dependants out of maintenance.
