FOOTBALL.

THE TENGAWAI QUESTION. MACKENZIE SUB-UNION. A meeting of the Mackenzie SubUnion was held at Albury on Saturday evening. Present—Messrs J. O’Connor (in the chair), F. Geaney, H. Carlton, J. R. Wyber, W. L. Bourn, W. McNarry, E. Burrell, V. Sullivan, and J. A. Fraser (secretary). The chairman said that as instructed at last meeting he had arranged with Mr J. A. Fraser to be secretary. Mr O’Connor’s action was endorsed. A letter was received from the Tengawai Football Club asking for permission for a deputation to wait on the meeting. It was agreed to and the deputation, consisting of Messrs Campbell, G. Allen, McDonald and McVey was received. Mr Campbell said that the Tengaw'ai Club wished to affiliate with the Sub-Union, and enter a team in the competitions. A good team could be put on the field. After the deputation had retired, the position was fully discussed, and it was decided that the Tengawai Club should not be allowed to affiliate and take part in the competition this year. It was explained that at a previous meeting only three Clubs—Fairlie, Aorangi and Albury—stated that they wished to affiliate with the Sub-Union and enter teams. A competition was decided on and a draw for the first round was made. Should Tengawai now be allowed to enter the prospect was that the Albury Club would be so much weakened that it could not field a team, and there would be only then the three teams and the position would not be improved. The secretary was instructed to write to Mr Grigg for instructions regarding the Grigg Cup. The secretary was instructed to procure footballs for the Albury and Fairlie Schools. Mr J. McKellar was appointed sole selector for the season. Advice was received from the South Canterbury Rugby Union that all games this season were to be played under the old rules.
