SECTION OF LABOUR ACCEPTS COMPROMISE. (Unitea Press Association—By Electrio Tel egraph—Copyrigh t.) SYDNEY, April 15. The Chief Railway Commissioner (Mr Cleary) said that .although the Australian Railways Union had rejected the forty-eight hours’ work for forty four hours’ pay proposal, three of the skilled unions—namely, the locomotive enginemen, the electricians, and the permanent way signallers—had accepted . a compromise. Mr Cleary emphasised the point that the way to negotiation was not closed. He was doing everything to avoid further dismissals.
