TEMUKA.

SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The following is the committee’s annual report to be presented to the Temuka Householder’s meeting:— The outstanding feature of the year’s work has been the installation of the septic tank, which has greatly improved the sanitary arrangements at the school. The asphalt path has been laid down between the open air class room and the main school building. Repairs have been effected to the iron fence on the north side of the grounds. Several bugles have been donated to the school, and a small band started. Thanks are due to Mr Allen, who is kindly fulfilling his promise to teach the band. The annual picnic was held at Timaru in February. The excursion train was well patronised, and the outing was in every way a success. The Committee are endeavouring to build up a large school library, and with that end in view no prizes were given during the year. A concert in aid of the library funds was held. A basket ball and football tournament in aid of school funds was also held. Both functions proved successful and it was decided to make the tournament an annual one. Our best thanks are due to Nurse Mouat, who continues to do good work at the Dental Clinic. During the year Mr Goodman retired from the position of janitor after many years of faithful service. Mr Denison has been, appointed in his stead, and is keeping the school and grounds in excellent order. The committee wish to place on record their appreciation of the manner in which the headmaster and staff have carried out their duties, and also desire to thank them for their assistance and co-operation during the year. The Watt-Lowry School which is conducted at the Salvation Army Boys’ Home is administered by this committee. During the year Misses Methven have been in charge, and have done excellent work. The Salvation Army officers also continue to take a keen interest in the work there. The committee take this opportunity of expressing their thanks to all those who have made donations, or in any manner taken an interest in the welfare of the school.
