HOOK GYMKHANA. A meeting of the Hook Gymkhana Committee was held in the Soldiers’ Memorial Hall on Wednesday night, when the president (Mr H. G. Rathgen), presided over a very good attendance. The reports of sub-committees showed that arrangements for the function were well in hand. Mr A. Aubrey advised that he would be unable to officiate as judge for the horse events, as he would be away from the district, but he had secured the services of Mr P. Brown. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Air J. Dempsey for his offer to do all the carting free of charge. Prizes to the value of £4O were allotted as specials. j The meeting decided that, where possible. side-show attendants should wear fancy dress. DRUIDS. The Ivy Bodge No. 21. Satisfaction has been expressed in several quarters that the gift of land made by the Meyer family to the borough is at last being turned to account, after being held in at~' vance for some considerable time. It was felt at the time the gift was made that a street to continue from Shearman Street to Queen Street, at the end of George Street, was necessary to give access to the vicinity of the school and railway, in a direct line from the north-western portion of the borough. The opening up of the new street will be a great boon to residents of the locality mentioned.
