PYNE, GOULD, GUINNESS, LTD. pYNE, GOULD, GUINNESS, LTD. ADDINGTON MARKET REPORT. WEDNESDAY, 9th APRIL, 1930. STORE LAMBS.—The entry was confined to a few pens, almost entirely of backward-conditioned lambs. There was a fair demand at the same level of prices as ruled last week. STORE SHEEP. —There was a goodsized entry, and although the quality as a whole was poor, there were a few outstanding lines of good sheep. There was not a very large attendance of buyers, and competition was slack, and for the bulk of the entry prices were scarcely as good as at the last sale. We sold an exceptional line of 6-tooth Corriedale ewes and Southdown lambs, the property of Mr H. Burgin (Swannanoa) at 30/-; also a line of five-year-old Corriedale ewes from the same breeder at 23/6. These sheep were in quite exceptional condition. A good draft of two-tooth ewes from Mr Denis Chapman (West Eyreton) sold at 28 - and 27/-. Several good lines of rather low-conditioned station ewes with absolutely sound mouths realised from 13/- to 15/6. Wethers, of which a fair number were penned, were hard to quit, the failure of the turnip crop and the poor prospect of winter feed affecting these sheep particularly. We quote the following range of values:— Good 2-tooth 4 and i -bred ewes, 24/to 28/-; small 2-tooth 4-bred ewes, 17/- to 20/-; good 6 and 8-tooth Romney cross ewes. 17/- to 21/6; good sound-mouth 4-bred ewes, 15/- to 17/6; low-conditioned do., 12/- to 14/-; forward Romney cross 4. 6 and 8-tooth wethers, 17/- to 21/6; average 4. 6 and 8-tooth 4-bred wethers, 12/- to 15/-; low-conditioned do.. 10/- to 12/-. FAT LAMBS.—There w'as a larger entry, totalling 3250. Competition for extra prime lambs from the butchers was good, and these sold well, but freezing lambs were easier owing to the shortage of space at the works. Our entry included some exceptionally good lines of lambs, notably 140 from Messrs Joblin and Welburn (Darfield), which sold at from 23/10 to 27/10 averaging nearly 26/-. Other sales that we made were as follows:—On A/c. of Mr A. Duthie (Aylesbury), 70 at 20/10 to 24/7; A/c. Mr R. Dawson (West Melton), 124 at 22/7; A/c. Mr H. FAT SHEEP.—There was a fairly heavy entry of about 12 races, comprising chiefly ewes. The demand for the latter was easier by from 1/6 to 2/- per head, and wethers were also easier, but not to the same extent. We sold a good line from Mr M. Bethell (Pahau Pastures), which made up to 31/10. Wethers, extra prime brought 27/6 to 31/10, prime 24 6 to 27/-. medium 21/- to 23/6, light 17/- to 20/-; ewes, extra prime 17/6 to 21/-, prime 14/- to 16/6, medium 11/6 to 13/6 light 9/6 to 11/-. FAT CATTLE.—The entry totalled 580, a very heavy market, and a great proportion of the yarding consisted ol poorly-finished and inferior cows These were easier by fully 30/- pei head, and good steers were down or an average by 20/- per head. Primt light-weight steers and heifers sole much on a par with last week. Pyne Gould, Guinness, Ltd. secured top price for the day, £l9/17/6, with drafts o steers from Mr W. A.
