HIGH SCHOOL JUBILEE

COMMITTEE MEETING. The weekly meeting of the High School Jubiiee Committee was hc-.I lasOt evening. Present:—Mr G. D. Virtue (in the chair), Mrs W. C. Raymond, Mrs D. S. Kemshed, Mrs J. D. Duncan, Miss J. R. Barr, Miss M. Tizard, Messrs W. Thomas, W. D. Revell, A. N. Leslie. J. L. Ferrier (hon. treasurer), and S. D. Mason (organising secretary). A very full evening’s work was gonr through, and the whole of the jubilee celebrations programme was finalised. The Transport Committee reported that they had arranged for cars to meet all trains on Good Friday and Easter Saturday, for the use of visiting old girls or boys. All cars would have an official jubilee “sticker.” They also reported that they would like visitors to realise that if they saw any car about throughout the celebrations with these stickers, that the drivers would be only too plensed to transport them anywhere they wished to go. It was also reported that It had been arranged that an information bureau would be placed just outside the main entrance of the station, and this would .be used for distributing programmes, badges, and for giving any general information to visitors. Similar bureau would be placed at both the girls’ and boys’ schools during the functions there. At the football match between Timaru Old Boys and Christchurch Old Boys, the Old Boys’ Football Club were trying to arrange to keep seats for members of the earlier decades. In the evening the girls would hold a social evening, and the Rector had invited all old boys 01 all periods to be his guests at the Bovs’ School. At this latter function, old boys would present a silk standard and a jubilee birthday cake to the School.

At the Sunday afternoon service, the muster would be at the Girls’ School, and all ex-pupils and present pupils would then march to the Boys’ School. It was hoped that everyone who possibly could would take part in this march. Tne service was to be conducted by the Rev. S. Parr, M.C.. an old boy of the School, who would be assisted by a member of the Timaru Ministers’ Association.

On Monday morning the official opening of the celebrations would be held, and it was hoped that speakers would be the Minister of Education, Member of Parliament for Timaru, the Mayor of Timaru, and the chairman of the High School Board of Governors. Both Schools would be divided for their individual roll calls, and each group would be addressed by prominent old girls and boys. The programme for the sports meeting was submitted and adopted. It consisted more or less of items cf a carnival nature, and one of the items i sto be a grand march of all old boys and girls.

The Ball Committee reported on the Jubilee Ball, which is to be held in the Boys’ Gymnasium. It had been decided that one of the partners attending must be either an old girl or an old boy. One of the rooms in the school was being fitted up as a lounge and bridge room.

It was stated that the motor *un had not yet been definitely fixed, as the advertising calling for cars had only just appeared. The garden party was placed under Miss Barr’s capable supervision, and assisted by the following committe of Old Girls:—Misses King, I. Hassell, A. Fussell, N. Howell, N. Knubley and C. Palliser.

The concert sub-commitee reported that they had arranged a concert, at which well known artists would assist.

It was decided that the general public be invited to attend divine service on Sunday afternoon, official •. pening on Monday morning, sports on Monday afternoon, and the concert on Tuesday evening. The treasurer reported that donations were coming in steadily.

The secretary reported that programmes were ip course of printing, and that these, with badges, would be posted to all those who had leplied stating their intention of attending the functions.
