CARS DAMAGED.
COLLISION ON BROOKLAND’S HILL. At about five o’clock on Tuesday evening, a motor-car accident, attended by very serious damage to the cars, but, fortunately, by only slight injuries to the occupants, occurred at the curve on the northern end of Brookland’s Hill, on the Main South Road. The drivers of the cars were Mr J. Lamb, service station owner, Timaru, accompanied by Mr G. Bray, Waimate; and Mr F. Stewart, Melton Road, Timaru, who had as a passenger, his daughter, Mrs Guthrie, Pareora, who had that day left hospital and was on her way homewards. The impact between the two cars, which were travelling in opposite directions, was very sharp, their respective right hand front wheels taking the full force. Mr Lamb’s car suffered a bent chassis, a broken mudguard, a broken running guard, and broken wheel, and the steering gear was jambed and the side of the radiator bent. Mr Stewart’s car suffered even more extensively, the chassis being broken clean in two, and the vehicle is stated to be damaged beyond repair.
The occupants of both cars were very fortunate in escaping with a few minor abrasions and cuts, from glass. Mr Bray, who was seated with Mr Lamb in the front seat of the latter’s car, was propelled forward, his head knocking a hole in the windscreen. Mr Bray suffered fairly severe cuts about his eyes, and Mr Lamb sustained a nasty gash on his right thumb. The occupants of the other car were more fortunate in the matter of personal injuries, these being very slight. Both cars were towed to Timaru.
