UNEMPLOYMENT.
LEVY FOR RELIEF WORKS REJECTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, April 9. A special committee of the City Council to-night proposed to levy a special rate of 3d in order to raise £ISOO for unemployed relief works. The proposal was rejected, and it was decided to leave it to the ratepayers to say whether a loan of £20,000 should be raised. COMMITTEE DISBANDED. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 9. It is reported that the Government Committee on Unemployment has now disbanded. The Committee presented two reports announcing that it was awaiting instructions from the Government before taking up any further line of investigation. The Committee have had no communication from the Government, and it is understood, does not wish to proceed to investigate further on the lines of the operation of the proposed Unemployment Board, if the Government does not intend to set it up as recommended.
