FISHING. The Waihi streams here been showing visible fiijfiio of the dry spell, end have been unfavourable for fishing. Weeds are making an unwelcome appearance. A fresh in the rivers before the end of the season would be appreciated by anglers. Not many fish have been caught lately, though a good many anglers are on the river in the evening. PERSONAL. Mrs C. King (Timaru), who had been on a visit to Christchurch, spent «. few days with Mrs J. H. Anderson, Winchester, before returning home to Timaru. Mr F. McLoud, Christchurch, is spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs T. H. Langford, Winchester. Mr J. H. Anderson, Winchester, is to leave this week for a fortnights holiday In the North Island. MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB. The annual meeting of the Winchester Miniature Rifle Club was held in the Library on Monday evening. Mr R. Maddren (president), presided over a large attendance. The secretary (Mr P. Surridge) presented the amended report and balance sheet. There w r as a small credit balance. The president said that two items, the installation of electric light ana a new r rifle, could not recur for some seasons. The report stated that the Club had had a another successful year. The Club had fired matches against Clandeboye, each winning one, ana two matches against Hilton, the Club winning both. They also beat Temulca. The Club fired in the newly formed Geraldine County Council Miniature Rifle Association, and held a good position for the first two shoots, bur failed in the final shoot. The dance at the end of the season was run at a loss. The Club tendered congratulations to two members, Messrs H. J. Hopkins and D. Louden, for their fine performances in shooting in the Timaru Rifle Defence Club. The Cluo offered sincere thanks to the donors of trophies, to the Press, to Messrs R. Maddren, W. L. Gudsell, H. J. Hopkins and A. H. Opie for conveying the teams to the matches, to Mr L. H. Orbell (auditor). During the season the Club bought a new rifle, and had also to pay for the installation of electric light, which left them with a small ci edit balance to commence the new season. Opening night was fixed for April 25 th. It was decided that the handicapper be given a free hand. It was resolved that the entertainment of visiting teams be at the shooting shed only, and that members must ; pay their subscriptions before they are | allowed to compete for any trophies; i also that all competitors must take ! their targets at once to the judges of targets when they had finished shoot,Qr. It was decided to get a tester for the use of the judges. It was resolved to give a miniature cup to any competitor who had a leg in for the Houlihan Cup. The captain, vice-captain, and handicapper were appointed selectors. The matter of holding a euchre tournament was left in abeyance. The subscription was fixed for 6s. It was resolved that a small charge be made on the members for supper during the winter months.
