MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Committee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held yesterday. Present:—Mr A. S. Elworthy (chairman), Mesdames Edgar Jones, R. H. Rhodes, A. Wigley. T. E. Holdgate, M. Harper, and Messrs F. Clissold, C. G. Baker, R. H. Sinclear Thomson, F. F. Neale, A. E. Lewis, M. Harper, and G. Gliddon (inspector). The secretary reported that the financial statement was as follows: —Investments £200: P. 0.5.8. £177/19/7; bank account £73/7/10; total £451. 7/5. Accounts outstanding £sl/11/6. The secretary of the Wellington Society wrote stating that it had been decided to delay the Dominion Conference in order that the honorary executive should meet and formulate a draft constitution for the Federation of the New' Zealand Societies. The meeting appointed the inspector and another member to attend the conference when held. The balance sheet of the recent gymkhana at Holme Station showed receipts £l6l/14/7, and expenditure £54/1/10, being a profit of £lO7/12/9. Reporting on the success of the gymkhana, the secretary (Mr W. D. Revell) stated that :t was estimated that the attendance was about 1500; the takings at the gate amounted to £59/14/6, and there must have been 200 to 250 cars parked in the paddock. He would like to place on record the excellent manner in which the competitions had been carried out. He mentioned specially Mr Sinclair Thomson and his committee (parkingarrangements), Mr M. Harper and his committee (ponies). Mr Lewis and committee (dogs and pets), Mr Davison (sheep trials). Mrs H. Elworthy, Miss M. Gibson, and Mr D. Unwin and committees (games), Mr Bowen and his helpers (chocolate games). Mrs R. H. Rhodes and assistants (tea tent), Mrs Barker and Mrs Shand (ice cream and soft drinks stall). The Timaru Municipal Band and the Timaru Pipe Band were deserving of thanks for the part they played in the function. Mr Revell stated that the attraction which provided the greatest pleasure were the beautiful grounds of Holme Station. Mr and Mrs Elworthy should be thanked for the manner in which they had gone out of their way to make the party a great success. Although it was not possible to acknowledge all the assistance given, the secretary said he would like to mention the help afforded by Messrs C. G. Baker, S. D. Mason and J. P. Lamb. Members considered that. the gymkhana had been an unqualified success and extended thanks to Mr Revell for all he had done. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr and Mrs Elworthy, and it was agreed that letters be sent to donors of prizes and to others who had assisted. The inspector gave a comprehensive report on his work during the month. Several cases of cruelty to horses and cattle had been investigated, and in all instances settled satisfactorily.— [ The report was adopted.
