MR COLE’S LECTURE.
To the Editor of the “ Tlmaru Herald.” Sir, —Regarding the lecture on “No More War,” given by Mr C. H. Cole, in the Unitarian Hall, Timaru, I must say, that I am not surprised he did not get a fair hearing. Considering the military element of which, evidently, much of his audience was composed, it would have been remarkable if he had. I am sorry that some of my fellow townspeople were guilty of such a deliberate affront to a well meaning lecturer. Two of his opposers are militarists, and as for the young Territorials, we can only hope that Mr Cole will excuse them on account of their youthful lack of knowledge and want of experience of the horrors of war. I think most "true mothers object to bringing strong healthy sons into the world merely to be targets. I do most strongly. Defence of their country is another matter and need not take years of training. I do not know Mr Cole’s exact opinion on the matter, but personally I am quite convinced that real peace, can only come from God through earnest prayer.—l am, etc., PEACE ON EARTH GOODWILL TO MEN. Timaru, April 9.
