SMALL BOAT AGROUND
EFFORTS TO REFLOAT HER UNSUCCESSFUL. By Telegraph—Press Association. NELSON, April 8. The Anchor Company’s small cargo steamer, Alexander, ran aground in the French Pass at 2.30 this morning. as far as is known the vessel is not damaged. The Matangi has been despatched to tow the Alexander off. Later. Efforts to tow the Alexander off the shore in French Pass this afternoon were not successful. Further attempts will not be made for a day or two, when the vessel is expected to float off on the making of the tides. The steamer has made a bed of soft papa rocks, and the hull has suffered no damage.
