ARBITRATION COURT.
HOTEL WORKERS’ AWARD. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 5. The Arbitration Court is hearing S claim for a new award by the Hotel and Restaurant Workers’ Union, in which the right of entry to interview employees once a week is demanded. This is resisted by the employers, who do not object to an individual employer agreeing with the Union for periodical visits, but claim the right for him to decide whom he will allow on hia premises. The power of the Court to make any such provision is questioned, and the opinion of the late Sir Charles Skerrett is quoted in support. The employers’ representative suggested that the point should be submitted to the Appeal Court. As a result of a conference between the parties an agreement was reached on all points, except hours and wages. This was reported to the Arbitration Court this morning. The hearing on the points at issue will commence on Monday.
