DAME EMMA ALBANI. (United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, April 3. The death is announced, of Dame Emma Albani, the famous prima donna. [Dame Emma Albani was born ac Chambly, near Montreal, on November 1, 1852, and was a daughter of the late Joseph Lajeunesse, musician, organist and harpist. In 1878 she was married to an Englishman, Ernest Gye. She made her singing debut at Messina in 1870 in “La Sonnambula,” and two years later appeared in London with the Royal Italian Opera. She toured extensively and had sung in America, Russia, Germany, Australia. South Africa, India and Canada. She was Court singer to the Emperor of Germany, held the Order of Merit of Denmark and Germany, two Jubilee Medals and the Victoria Badge, and was created D.B.E. in 1925. Her only publication was in the nature of an autobiography, “Forty Years of Song,” (1911).] THOMAS C. FRENCH. By Telegraph—Press Association. DARGAVILLE, April 4. The death took place to-day of Mr Thomas C. French, secretary of the Kaipara Hospital Board since its inception. For many years he was the representative of the Public Trustee, and agent for the State Fire Office. He had been a resident of the district for nearly half a century. He is survived by a widow, who is the daughter of the late Mi* John Stallworthy, ex-M.P., and sister of the Minister of Health, and a grown-up family of one son and four daughters.
