H.M.S. VERONICA V. TOWN TEAM. Yesterday afternoon, a team from H.M.S. Veronica at present in port, played a very enjoyable match at Fraser Park, against a local team. Each side played one innings, and the j shore team ran out winners by 34 runs. The sailors knocked up 72 runs. The opening batsman Spencer, top-scored J with 29, and gave quite an interesting I display. Of the next seven batsmen. I only three managed to score. The rot ( was stopped by Rogers 17. and Hanlon 11 (not out) who scored at a fairly rapid rate. Bowling honours were shared by Powell and Roddick, the former taking six wickets at a relatively small cost. But for a score of 52 by Roddick and extras 21. the local team would have fared even worse than the naval men. R. Mason (14), and Mclnnes (12). were the only other batsmen to make a stand.
