FIGHT FOR RUGBY CROWN.
France’s Big Ambition. GOOD CHANCE OF REALISATION. I (United Press Association—By Electrio Tel egraph—Copyright.) (Received March 16, 11 *).m.) LONDON, March 15. There is a possibility of France reaching the summit of her sporting ambitions, by winning the international championship in Rugby football, for if she beats Wales at Paris on Easter Monday, she will have three victories, while England and Ireland have only two each. ENGLAND v. SCOTLAND. TITANIC STRUGGLE RESULTS IN DRAW. (United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph-Copyright.) (Received March 16, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, March 15. Playing Rugby football at Twickenham, ifi the annual Calcutta Cup match. England v. Scotland, drew. There was no score. Hard-fought Game. • To-day’s pointless draw before 60.000 j spectators, including the Duke of ! York and Mr Ramsay Macdonald, was one of the hardest fought games ever seen at England’s headquarters. The game was full of excitement from the kick-off to the final whistle. It was not a great game compared with many other internationals, lor the threej quarter backs rarely got going, but ; there was a tremendous struggle be- ! tween two fine sets of forwards. The { tackling throughout was fierce and relentless. England was unfortunate
not to win, for the greater part of the game was played in the Scottish half of the ground, and England was within an ace of scoring several times. England's half backs, Sobey and Spong, who are members of the team which is visiting Australia and New Zealand, were in fine form, and continually opened up the game, but the threequarters could not carry on the good work. Sobey made the most brilliant effort of the match, when he broke away from the scrummage on the half-way line and swerved and dodged through the bewildered Scotsmen, only to be tackled a yard from the line.
INTERNATIONAL SOCCER. SCOTLAND DEFEATS ENGLAND. (United Press Association —By fiffectr Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received March 16, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. March 15. At Hampden Park, Glasgow, in the soccer international match, Scotland j beat England by one goal to nil.
