ONE WONDERFUL DAY.

TRIP TO KUROW. Have you seen the Waitaki Hydroelectric Power Scheme? We went to see the Works last Sunday—in one 01 Collings’ De Luxe Motor coaches. It was a lovely day; brilliant sunshine flooded the countryside, and the great bus glided along the highway, maintaining schedule time with pleasant, effortless speed. For miles we passed harvest fields, while on all sides, one could see the poplar and willow Lees make waving patterns on the far flung carpet of smiling farmsteads.

When we were a mile from Glenovy, the bus turned In towards the nills, and for miles, the road stirts the blue waters of the Waitaki, which swirls along its rocky course to the sea. For some distance along the route, an old

stone wall, covered with mosses ana creepers, adds to the picturesqueness of the journey. From the spacious cabin of the bus, which enclosed us in tasteful luxury, we caught occasional glimpses of deserted old cob houses, with battered doors, and broken windows—silent reminders chat this same route along which we glided so pleasantly, is an old historical road crammed full of romance and stirring adventure.

Suddenly the settlement of the Hydro Works appears, stretched out in a seemingly endless line. The works present a most impressive picture—nobody should miss seeing this marvellous engineering feat—the huge dam, when completed, will be about a third of a mile in length, and the base of the dam will be 100 ft. in width, the dam forming a lake which will be five miles in extent. There is a population of about 1300 people at the works, and houses are still being constructed.

On the return journey, we came through the Waimate Gorge. As the. bus wound about in sharp curves between the steep nills which closed in on either side, an orange-red sunset splashed the western sky, lighting up the curving ranges of hills in n suffused glow. What a wonderful day it had been--as ore lady remarked, “This has been a really perfect day.”

These luxurious motor excursions are at such an astonishingly low price, too, and they have now become an outstanding feature in the Collings efficient motor bus service. Go on one of these trips yourself--you will be delighted with it. ...
