FAIRLIE.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL. The Fairlie Baths were well filled with an enthusiastic gathering of spectators for the annual carnival organised by the Fairlie Swimming Club. The presence of competitors from Timaru and Waimate added greatly to the interest* and the finishes in most of tile events were very close. The officials responsible for the successful running of the carnival were as follows:—President, Mr E. L. Banks; hon. secretary, Mlsa J. Pickering; starter, Mr W. Carlton; judges, Rev. J. T. McWLHiam and Mr W. Scott; diving, Messrs W. Carlton and R. L. Banks; timekeeper, Mr W. L. Bourn; handicapper, Mr R. Kerr. At the conclusion the visitors and competitors were entertained by the Pair lie Club. Mr W. Carlton, on behalf of visitors, returned thanks for the hospitality shown fry the Fairlie Club. Mr D’Auvergme (Waimate) returned thanks on behalf cl the Waimate swimmers.

Mr S. Cooper, captain of the Flalrlle Club, thanked the visitors for their presence, and assured them that their help had been a big factor. ST. PATRICK’S CONCERT. St. Patrick’s day will be celebrated in Fairlie by a concert and dance in the Aorangi Hall on Tuesday. The following performers have been secured;— Miss McDavitt (Wellington), contralto; Miss M. O’Connor (Christchurch), soprano; Miss K. O'Connor (Christchurch), musical monologues; Rev. Father Outtrim (Fairlie), tenor; Mr Graham-Young (Christchurch), baritone; and Mr W. Minehan (Timaru), recitations. Among the numbers will be popular Irish, Scottish, and English songs.
