THE POWER OF WEALTH

£1,000,000 HOUSE.

Fortune has smiled upon a middleaged Czech maid-servant, who, after marrying her employer, a wealthy New York stock-broker, has now inherited a vast fortune on his death. In the rambling gabled mansion, valued at £1.000.000, where for 17 years she made the beds and polished the floors as chambermaid, and where her brother is still butler, this former Czech immigrant reigns to-day as mistress and sole owner. Anna Maria Schleis was born on a small farm in Bohemia, 47 years ago, and in 1927 she married, as his fourth wife, her employer, Mr Frank W. Sabin, a millionaire. He died recently at the age of 78, leaving the bulk of his estate, valued at between £4,000,000 and £5,000,000, to his widow. This ex-chambermaid, besides being the mistress of a palatial house and a large fortune, has eight Rolls-Royce cars and a staff of 20 servants, at the head of whom is her brother, the butler. The third Mrs Sabin had also been a servant in the house, having acted for many years as Mr Sabin’s housekeeper.
