The Japanese Ambassador has taken a whole box for his suite when this club for girls, who are determined to go on being educated—and sometimes need re-education—-produces “The Cradle Song” and a Nativity play at the Scala Theatre. Few shoppers in a Brompton Road store one morning noticed a fairhaired woman in deep black occupied in choosing clocks. She was Princess Mary, who very frequently gives clocks as wedding presents to her friends, and this time she chose eight different models. The Princess was greatly intrigued by the ultra-modern clocks that have triangular, half-moon and geometrically-shaped faces, with numerals in marquisite to match hand-bag initials, but she did not include any of them in her purchases. For a quarter of an hour, however, she and her lady-in-waiting stood fascinated by the auO-day clocks that are worked by a battery, and which, however they are thrown about, apparently, will never stop.
