DERBY SWEEPS.
CURTAILMENT MOOTED. (United Press Association—By Electric Teleiirs-jU—Caay right.) LONDON, February 21. Rumours have been current for some time that, owing to the possibility of police action under pressure from the Anti-gamblers’ Stock Exchange, the Derby sweep will be abandoned. It is now announced that the mutual subscription fund, as it is officially called, will be limited to 100,000, of which 10 per cent, is distributed to charities. Last year the fund reached £1,000,000, and charities received £IOO,OOO. The limitation means that needy hospitals and other beneficiaries will lose £90,000.
