NEW LAND DISCOVERED.

COAST LINE CHARTED. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received February 21, 5.5 p.m.) OSLO,- February 20. The discovery of new land, of which 100 nautical miles of coast has been charted by aeroplane, is reported by Captain Larsen in a wireless message on February 19. After the discovery of Norgevia Bank on February 1, he and Holm constantly attempted to investigate the new land by aeroplane. It is supposed to lie 32 west. The weather and ice rendered the attempt impossible. The Norvegia then steered southward till February 15, when soundings, 70.42 south, 12.20 west, gave 1325 fathoms, shallowing to 670 fathoms. An iceberg was sighted, to which the vessel approached. Soundings showed 170 fathoms, decreasing to 125, seeming to indicate a continual shelf, from which a submarine plateau of 125 fathoms stretched towards the new land, which was discovered on February 17. The Norvegia stopped at the foot of the ice barrier at a depth of 90 fathoms, 71.26 south, 11.31 west, where the north-western point of land lies. Larsen and Holm flew out and charted the west coast to 71.50 south, 11.25 west, where they saw a barrier stretching in a south-westerly direction. They charted the north side, east north and eastward to west. Snowstorms and fogs made charting very difficult. The western point of the new land is 1100 feet high. The eastern part- is lower, with an ice barrier protruding. The north coast is quiet and free from ice. The western coast Is partly so. No peaks show above the ice.
