MISSING POSTMAN.
FRUITLESS SEARCH FOR BODY. (United Press Association— T3v Electrlo Telegraph—copyright.) LONDON. February 20. An intensive search of the Bomahon district, the combing out of miles of bogland, excavations on the sea shore and the dragging of a mineshaft have failed to reveal the body of Laurence Griffin, the missing postman, who was kidnapped. The police brought a diver from Liverpool, and lowered him into the narrow, deep Ballinassisla mineshaft. The diver reported that it was too dangerous to attempt diving operations, so the project was abandoned. It is now considered that if the body is in the shaft it will never be recovered.
Laurence Griffin, a postman, of the Free State, disappeared at Stradbally on Christmas night. Subsequently ten of the inhabitants were arrested, and charged with murdering Griffin and conspiring tex dispose of his body. In court the allegation was made that Griffin was sew'n in a blanket while still alive and was thrown over a bridge or down a mineshaft; The accused included Thomas Cashin, school teacher, Edmund Morrissey, labourer, Patrick Whelan, hotelkeeper, his wife, son and daughter, and, two Civic Guards.
