GREAT FIRE IN SYDNEY.
SIXTY THOUSAND DAMAGE. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph —Cop yright.) (Received February 20, 9.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, February 20. A fire which caused £60,000 damage was responsible for many dramatic incidents at Camperdown suburb, to-day, when the Kilner Ferns Company’s large furniture store, was gutted, with a tremendous quantity of furniture belonging to one hundred private owners. The flames were 100 ft. high, and there were repeated explosions of fusing electric wires and falling walls. The terrific heat kept a huge crowd of onlookers at bay. The firemen had a gruelling time, and there were narrow escapes from injury. The ocupants of the adjoining buildings were driven out, and it was three hours before the blaze was under control. The origin of the fire is unknown.
