“DUMPING” BUTTER.
ALLEGATIONS AGAINST AUSTRALIA. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received February 19, 7.55 p.m.) LONDON, February 18. In the House of Commons, Mr Manner asked: Is Australia dumping her butter, on which a bounty of 4d per lb has to be paid, and what steps is It proposed to take? Mr W. H. Gillett (Under-Secretary for Oversea Trade) replied that there was no direct Government bounty, but the producers levied themselves, from which an export bounty was paid. He did not think the matter called for action. Mr Mandef: “There is hot a good deal to be said for welcoming these gifts to cheap food.” Mr Hannon: “It this the attitude of the Liberals towards the Dominions?”
