DAMAGES AWARDED.
COMPENSATION FOR INJURIES. By Telegraph—Pres* Association. AUCKLAND, February 19. A claim by Marjorie May Davidson for £1250 general damages, and £137 medical expenses, as a result of a motor accident last June, was heard in the Supreme Court to-day, before Mr Justice Smith and a jury of 12. The claim was made against Ngue Man, a market-gardener at Avondale, as owner of the motor-lorry involved, and employer of the driver, Wong Chee. The plaintiff suffered a fracture of the spine, a fracture of the pelius, and other serious injuries. She had to be carried into Court on a stretcher, from which she gave evidence. Medical witnesses expressed the opinion that it might be two years yet before plaintiff would be able to go about her normal duties again. At the time of the accident plaintiff was with her fiance, H. McKinnon, who also was knocked down by the lorry at the top of Pitt Street. The jury awarded £750 general damages, and £lB7/12/- special damages, making a total of £937 12/-. Counsel for plaintiff moved for judgment, and opposing counsel moved for leave to apply for a new trial on the ground that the verdict was against the weight of evidence. His Honour said he would hear the motions at a date to be fixed.
