INDUSTRIES FAIR.
VISITED BY THE QUEEN.
(United Press Association—By Electrle Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, February 18. Through an unusual lapse on the part of the organisers, the Queen, Princess Mary and the Duke of York j almost jnissed seeing the whole of the British Industries Fair at Olympia, ] namely the .Empire Marketing Board’s j half, in which there is a most impres- ; sive display of the wealth and variety ! of the Empire’s products, j The Queen was strikingly garbed in ! a purple coat and hat, with grey shoes 1 and gloves. | Although the visit was semi-private, I the public sensed the occasion and the members of the Royal party were fre- | quently held up by the crowds. ! Empire Hall was the last reached, and j there was some uneasiness amongst ! the bodyguard, who conferred aside ; with Lord Passfield, who was obvij ously perturbed. | The Queen, who was momentarily j unattached, quietly asked her escort, i “Where do we go next? I will go ! on,” and the bodyguard hastened the ! group forward, without mentioning the j Empire displays. i There were immediate protests from Empire exhibitors, and it is underI stood that when informed that the Empire Hall had been passed over the Queen expressed a desire to revisit it, much to the delight of the exhibitors and spectators from the Dominions, who caustically criticised the oversight. The party first inspected the New Zealand section, mainly consisting of | butter, lamb and honey. ! The Queen remarked: “What lovely I butter. It is of fine quality.” Her Majesty noticed carcases of ! lamb and recalled a visit to the Dunedin freezing works; saying: “It was than as cold as it is here to-day.”
