INVERCARGILL SESSIONS. By Telegraph—Pres* Association. INVERCARGILL, February 19. At the Supreme Court, Charles Wolfe, for assault, was sentenced to imprisonment for three months. Herbert Jones Emrys, on six charges of false pretences, received 18 months’ reformative treatment. Thomas Munn Keefiles, for indecent assault, was sentenced to one year reformative treatment. Keith David Given, for breaking and entering, received three years’ probation. Graham Crozier, for breaking and entering, was ordered to undergo two years' reformative treatment JUNE’S FIREMEN. By T«Wr»ph—Proas Association. AUCKLAND, February 19. Six Norwegian firemen from the steamer June were charged at the Police Court to-day with being absent from the vessel without leave. They were ordered to forfeit two days’ pay.
VALUELESS CHEQUES. By Telegraph—Pros* Association. PALMERSTON NORTH. Feb. 19. At the Police Court, S. G. Railton, of Taihape, pleaded guilty to-obtaining £lO at Taihape by a valueless cheque, and £5 at Palmerston North by a similar method; and with attempting to obtain £3 at Levin, representing himself as Robert King. In sentencing accused to three months’ gaol, concurrent, the Magistrate stated that comment had been made in the Supreme Court of the prevalence of this type of offence. In the Magistrate’s opinion the crime would only be stimulated if the accused were simply convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.
A MEAN THEFT. By Telegraph—Press Association. BLENHEIM. February 19. “Rather a mean theft," was Sergeant Peterson's description of an offence by Ernest Robert Murray, who pleaded guilty to stealing £7 from Wesley John Cowan at Spring Creek. Murray was a ward of the State, and he stole the money from a roommate. The Magistrate sentenced accused to two years’ reformative treatment.
