ACCIDENT AT SPEEDWAY. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND. Feb. 19. As a result of being struck by another competitor at the Western Springs Speedway to-night, Selwyn Casey (20), of Remuera. received injuries to his head which necessitated his removal to Auckland hospital. An examination revealed that Casey had a gash on the head, but his condition was satisfactory at a late hour. Four competitors were close together !on a corner when Casey. who was riding second, slipped and fell. Though rather dazed by the fall Casey had risen to his knees, when A. Mattson, who was riding almost immediately behind, crashed into him. OVERDOSE OF MORPHINE. By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, February 19. j The inquest concluded this morning j on William M. Stothart. a young man 1 employed as a cadet at the Medical | School, who died on January 30. The evidence showed that he had access to the school at all times, and j at his home were found a hypodermic ] syringe (which was missed from the 1 school), morphine tablets, and mor--1 phine in solution. While engaged in painting his premises at Richardson Street, St. Kilda, this morning, Thomas Morris, a single man was thrown to the ground as the result of a ladder on which he was standing breaking. He was immediately taken to hospital, where he died this afternoon. Deceased was about sixty-years of age. CROSSING CRASH. By Telegraph—Press Association. INVERCARGILL, February 19. A crossing smash occurred at Grassmere. near Invercargill, early this

evening, when an excursion train from Colac struck a car driven by Jack Lyons, aged eighteen. The car was wrecked, and Lyons Is at present in hospital suffering from slight concussion and abrasions on his head and hands.
