OBITUARY.
MRS TERESA MARSHALL.
The death occurred at her home in Catherine Street, Timaru, on January 21, of another of Timaru’s pioneers Mrs Teresa ".Marshall, relict of the late Mr R.. W. Marshall, and Imperial and Maori War veteran, who, in the early days in Timaru, formed one of the crew of the surf boats which were used to land gargo from ships anchored in the roadstead. Mrs Marshall came out to New Zealand on the “Lancashirewich,” as a single girl, to take up a position in < Timaru. One year after she landed here she married the late Mr Marshall. They had been married only three weeks when the disastrous fire of 1868, which swept Timaru from one end to the other, broke out, but they were fortunate enough not to sustain any loss of property or-effects. About eighteen months later. Mrs Marshall and her husband removed to New Plymouth, and later went to Nelson, | finally returning to Timaru after an j absence of four years. Mrs Marshall ■ remained in Timaru after her return from Nelson for forty-two years, dur- ! ing which time she lost her husband. ! Later, Mrs Marshall stayed with her i son, Mr D. C. Marshall, stationmaster j at Morven, for some time, until she returned to Timaru where she resided i until the time of her death. Mrs Marshall led a quiet, retired life, w*ith Ino interests outside of her family, . and her immediate circle of friends, i among whom she was greatly loved and respected. Mrs Marshall is survived by five sons, Messrs R. W. ! Marshall, Timaru, T. W. Marshall, J. lA. Marshall and Brigadier A. J. Marshall, all of Christchurch, and Mr : D. C. Marshall, Invercargill; and two ; daughters. Mrs Stanley Jenkins, El- ; tham, and Miss Mabel Marshall, Timaru.
