PYNE, GOULD, GUINNESS, LTD. pYNE, GOULD, GUINNESS, LTD. ADDINGTON MARKET REPORT.' WEDNESDAY, sth FEBRUARY, 1930. FURTHER ADVANCE IN STORE LAMB PRICES. Store Lambs.—There was a fairly heavy entry of store lambs, including a number of drafts from Kaikoura and Blenheim. The demand was very keen throughout, prices if anything being firmer by 1/- per head than last week. We quote the following range of values:—Forward Down cross and S-bred lambs, 18/8 to 22/-; ordinary Down cross, 15/- to 17/6; good i-bred wether lambs, 17/6 to 20/3, medium Id/- to 17/-, small. 11/6 to 14/-. Fat Lambs.—The yarding was smaller than last week, and a fair proportion of the offering consisted of light and indifferently-finished lambs. The sale was a good one, though perhaps scarcely as keen as last week. Extra prime light and medium-weight lambs were making the full Bid per lb, with heavier lambs bringing 8d to 81d. We secured top price for the day at 30/4, for lambs on account of Mr F. Leonardo. Amongst the drafts that we sold were the following:—On account Mr F. Leonardo (Le Bon's Bay), 7 at 30/4; Mr Gerald Stoddart (Lincoln), 80 at 26/7 to 29/7; Mr G. Hight (Hororata), 43 at 28/- to 29/10; Mr D. E. Baynon (Clarkville), 25 at 27/7 to 29/9; Mr J. Woods (Tai Tapu), 18 at 27/4 to 29/7; Mr F. Jenkins (Port Levy), 338 at 22/1 to 28/7; Mr F. G. Early (Greendale), 12 at 24/4 to 28/7; Mr J. Gillanders (Greendale i, 87 at 24/4 to 27/1; Mr J. Dougall (Waikari), 56 at 25/10 to 26/2. Store Sheep.—There was a mediumsized offering of wethers and ewes, and good demand was experienced throughout. The ewes came almost entirely from Kaikoura, Blenheim and the Chatham Islands. The demand for the Chatham Islands sheep was particularly keen, most pens making from 25/- to 28/6. We quote the .following range of values:—Good 2-tooth i-bred ewes, 27/- to 30/-; good 6 and 8-tooth Chatham Island ewes, 25/- to 28/6; fair-conditioned sound-mouthed five-year-old i-bred ewes, 18/- to 21/-; forward 6 and 8-tooth Romney cross wethers, 23/- to 25/6; 4, 6 and 8-tooth i-bred wethers, 18/- to 22/-. Fat Sheep.—There was another light entry, although somewhat bigger than last week's. A good sale was experienced, but competition was scarcely as keen as at the preceding sale, although values ruled much on a par. We quote:—Wethers, extra prime to 35/-, prime 30,'- to 32/6, medium 27/6 to 29/6, light 24/- to 27/-; ewes, extra prime 24/- to 27/6, prime 21/- to 23/6, medium 18/- to 20/5, light 14/- to 16/6. Fat Cattle.—There was a fairly large entry of 475 head, compared with 400 last week, and Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Ltd.’s entry totalled 150 .including a number of good lines of steers. Competition throughout the day was keen, and prices were fully up to last week's rates, and in cases better. Prime medium weight steers and heifer beef made from 45/- to 47/6, with heavy steers from 40/- to 42/- per 1001 b. Amongst other principal sales were the following:—On account of Mr G. Humphreys (Willesden), 7 steers at £l7/12/6 to £l9/17/6, 3 cows at £3/17/6 to £ls/7/6; account Mr F. Leonardo (Le Bon’s Bay), 17 steers at £l6/12/6 to £l9/17/6, 6 cows at £ll/2/& to £ls/2/6; account Mr W. Leonardo (Le Bon’s Bay), 18 steers at £l7/2/6 to £l9/2/6, 3 cows at £lO/7/6 to £ls/7/6; account Gracia's Estate (Akaroa), 10 steers at £l7/7/6 to £lB/17/6; account Mr R. M. Johnson (Mt. Torlesse), 8 steers at £l6/17/6 to £lB/7/6; account Messrs Bennett and Oldfield (The Poplars), 24 steers at . £l3/7/6 to £l4/17/6; account Mr D. G. Macfarlane (Rafa Downs), 10 steers at £l3/7/6 to £l4/7/6, 5 cows at £9/2/6 to £ll/12/6. Prices ranged as follows: Steers, extra prime £2O to £23/7/6 prime £l7/10/- to £l9/10/-, medium £l4 to £l7, light £ll to £l3/10/-; extra prime cows and heifers £l4 to £l7/7/6 medium £lO/10/- to £l3/10/-, light £7/10/- to £lO. Dairy Cattle.—A medium-sized ei met with an improved demand, extra good second calver making £lB/2/-, extra good heifers from to £l6/5/-, good heifers from £lO/' to £l2/10/-. Vealers.—Prices- were on a par v late sales, and best runners madi £B/5/-; good calves from £3 to £5/1 small calves from 15/- to ,£2/10/-. Fat Pigs.—There was a heavy ei of baconers, and prices were down from 10/- to 15/- per head on week, the average price being' 7Sd lb.
