NATIONAL YEARLING SALES. RECORD PRICE FOR COLT. (Special to the “Herald.”) WELLINGTON, January 21. The fourth annual national yearling sales were held at Trentham to-day. The weather was fine in the morning, but rain set in during the luncheon interval, and the conditions were very unpleasant in the afternoon. Wright Stephenson and Co. commenced proceedings, and threequarters of their catalogue was disposed of in fine weather. The balance of their lots, and all of Pyne, Gould, Guinness’s catalogue were sold to the accompaniment of heavy showers. Bidding was brisk all day, and some excellent prices were realised, a Hunting Song colt, half-brother to Concentrate realising 2400 guineas—a New Zealand record.
