RACING IN ENGLAND.
EFFECT OF TOTALISTOR. (United Press Association—By Elsctriu Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received December 5, 10.50 p.m.) LONDON, December 5. Mr Daberman, addressing a meeting at Newmarket, said that the totalisator was responsible for a remarkable increase in racegoers, amounting in some instances to eighty per cent. Judging by investment thus far, it was anticipated that the first year’s operation would result in a turnover of £36,000,000. * The average yearly amount spent in betting in England was £267,000,000. The experience already gained confirmed the view that the totalisator also lead to better race courses, better stands, cheaper admission, larger prizes, and diminished entrance fees.
