BROPHY AND BYRD EXPEDITION. By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, Dec 5. j Relative to the cable about Rieharfi Brophy formerly second in command of the Byrd Expedition, Messrs H. 1,. Tapley and Co., base agents for the ex- j peditiott, state that there is no truth m the assertion that an intrigue with a Broadway actress caused Ins dismissal. Brophy was not dismissed. He suffered a severe breakdown in Dunedin, and during the period of incapacity was unfit to handle the expedition’s affairs, so that his resignation was ac cepted There was no question of misdemeanour, only the unnecessary expenditure arising from Brophy’s illness.
