WOMAN’S STORY IN COURT

“SECRET” MARRIAGE TO ENGLISHMAN. When Helly Cozzonis, was charged at Bow-street, Detective Dorey, of the Special Branch, said tlje woman handed him a letter from the Home Office which, she said, she thought exempted her from notifying her change of address. The letter was handed to the magistrate (Mr. Graham Campbell) who observed that it merely prolonged the time for her stay in this country. Detective Dorey added that the woman was married to a Spaniard, who was now dead. She landed in England on December 23 and was registered as a journalist representing a newspaper in Paris. Cozzonis told the magistrate: “There is a fact which may be something of a secret. I have been told that I am married to an Englishman with a croix de guerre. I told this to the Home Office and I felt more and more confident that I need not do anything else. But I have no proof of being married to an Englishman, I must say.” The magistrate, as stated above, ordered a remand for a doctor’s report.
