BRICK PAVING.
REFUSE FROM EARTHQUAKE. B j Telegraph—Press Asso*lat»oa. WESTPORT, August 27. Since the earthquake in which brick buildings, chimneys and brick walls suffered severely, all available motorlorries have been actively engaged in carting the remains to various dumping grounds. With very little spare space in close proximity to the damaged areas, the sides of numerous streets are now paved with bricks, mortar and concrete. The embankment approaching the Orowaiti Bridge has, since the ’quake, been built up, and considerably widened with such debris. The widened embankment is now proving a boon to motorists. Residents of the earthquake area are likely in future to put more trust in timber structures, which have stood shocks so well.
