Leaders of the Jewish Colony staged an orderly demonstration in front of the British Consulate on Monday, protesting against the anti-Jewish riots in Palestine. It is estimated that 17,000 participated. The alleged inefficiency of the British officials is partially blamed for the Palestine disturbances by the marchers. Sir Harry Goster Armstrong (British Consul-General) has promised the representatives of the Jewish demonstrators that he would communicate their demand for the restoration of order in Palestine to his Government. Disturbances started at Telaviv, in the vicinity of the spot where two hundred troops are stationed. Moslems were parading the streets to bury their co-religionists, when suddenly the procession broke up, upon which the police opened fire, killing six Arabs. The Jerusalem City Council announces that the Arabs are attacking Mahne and Ychudah, and Shasray Hesed. Between 120 and 150 Jews are reported to have been killed. Later this evening the Council issued a further message. The Arabs are making fresh attacks in new localities every moment. The Government is vacillating, and is putting obstacles in the way of our self-defence. Martial law has been proclaimed at Telaviv. JEWS’ WORLD-WIDE PROTEST. . AMERICAN OPINION ALARMED. . (United Press Association—By Eleetrlo Telegraph—Copyright) (Received August 27, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 26. Ten thousand Jews assembled in the Eastside, and heard addresses by their leaders. They then marched to the City Hall and the British Consulate, as a protest against the Palestine situation. At the Consulate, cantors chanted a funeral dirge, and sang the Jewish anthem. At the City Hall, the Mayor (Mr Walker) assured the Jews that he believed that “persecution never accomplished anything,” and he would do all he could to aid them. Sir Harry Armstrong stated that he did not agree with the issue of a formal protest, but would advise London of their wishes. The Jews carried a placard accusing Britain of failing to maintain its protectorate sufficiently. The Zionist organisation met tonight to plan further protests. ON THE CONTINENT.
