Thomas), in congratulating Mr Cockroft on his new appointment, mentioned that the latter was one oi the four original masters at the new school, and in addition to being a splendid teacher had met with conspicuous success as coach of the First Fifteen. C. Reid (head prefect) presented Mr Cockroft with a gold watch on behalf of the School. In reply, Mr Cockroft said he had enjoyed everv minute of his stay at the school. Mr Thomas had been like a father to him, and had encouraged him to continue in the service. The First Fifteen’s achievements, he said, had not all been due to his coaching, but were largely a result of excellent coaching given by other masters in lower grades. After Mr Cockroft had returned sincere thanks for the handsome present, he was chaired round the hall by the boys, to the accompaniment of “He's a Jolly Good Fellow.” and the School war-cry.
