THE WEATHER.
Mr F. L. Wooles. Wind, variable breezes; weather fair, cold conditions prevailing. Outlook for week ending September 2:—Wind mainly easterly to southerly; weather mainly fair at first, but showery conditions prevailing during the latter part of the period. Dominion Meteorologist. A moderate cyclone is moving north of New Zealand. An intense anticyclone now extends between Australia to southern New Zealand. Expect winds moderate to strong southeasterly to southerly, reaching gale force. at places in and north of Cook Strait. Seas rough north of Kaikoura and in Cook Strait; elsewhere moderate. Weather mainly fair over the South Island, except in the north-east portion; elsewhere changeable and unsettled, with showers, more especially in the northern and eastern districts. Cold temperatures generally, with many frosts in the South Island.
