AMERICA’S “BUCKET SHOPS.”
INVESTIGATIONS RESULT IN REDUCED BUSINESS. (United Press Association—By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright ) (Received August 24, 11.0 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 24. The District Attorney’s office estimates tipster houses and fake I brokers lost the New York public £8,000,000 annually. The Postal authorities recently started a drive against them, and one hundred such organisations folded up their tents and disappeared. The New York Telephone Company told the officials that its revenue had been reduced by £4OOO daily since the bucket shops were closed, which gives an idea of the tremendous business they were doing.
