WHEN BABY TRAVELS.
Don’t expect trouble. Babies are usually good travellers. Don’t wrap him up to warmly, or he will be restless and fretful. Take an extra shawl or blanket, which can be spread loosely over him to protect him from draughts. Don’t hold him in your arms all the time. He will sleep better if allowed to lie flat on your lap, or at your side in a pilgrim basket. Don’t carry warm milk ini a thermos flask. Microbes flourish if the milk is between 70 and 100 degrees F. Keep it as cool as possible, and dilute with hot water if required. Don’t worry if there is no cot at your journey’s end. A young baby sleeps comfortably on a pillow in a large drawer placed on a table. Do your packing well in advance so that nothing important is forgotten, and keep calm; then all will be well with the babe. THESE BAUBLES. Gold beads and discs are again in vogue. A necklace of oblong beads, recently seen, was of antique amber joined by small gold beads. Gipsy jewellery—are greatly sought after. In fact, slightly eccentric designs are prized highly on account of their rarity. Scotch pebbles are in demand for necklaces. ARE YOU A BLONDE? The blonde was a type of beauty generally admired in Shakespeare’s day. The brunette was not thought much of, and was referred to slightingly as being “dark” or “black.” Poor Phoebe in “As You Like It,” laments— I have never more cause to hate him than to love him; For what had he to do to chide at me?
