BEEF OUTLOOK GOOD.

An optimistic view regarding the future of beef production in England was expressed by Professor J. H. S. Watson, of the school of rural economy, University of Oxford, in an address to farmers in Shropshire. He believed beef producers in England were about to experience a comparatively profitable period. One reason was that the Argentine was passing the zenith of its career as a beef exporting country and was going in more for other branches of farming. With the declining supplies from that country to the United Kingdom, the price of chilled beef on the London market was steadily tending upward. Should the United States suddenly open her ports to Argentine beef, producers in England might experience a marked rise in prices. Professor Watson said the quality or ’Argentine beef was not nearly so good as that of good homegrown beef killed at a reasonable age.
