S.C. HUNT CLUB

| MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Committee of the South Canterbury Hunt Club was held yesterday. Present. —Messrs A. S. Elworthy (Master;, M. F. Maze, W. J. Bassett, F. F. Neale, M. Harper, W. H. Orbell and R. Morris. A letter was received from the New Zealand Hunts’ Association asking if the Club approved of the affiliation of the Mahia Club. The Secretary reported that he had replied forwarding the Club’s approval of a certificate being issued to thu Mahia Club. A circular' was received from the New Zealand Racing Conference making an appeal for assistance on behalf of the Westport Jockey Club, on scount of the damage (which was estimated at £650) caused to that Club’s appointments by the recent earthquakes. The chairman said that the club had not experienced the best of times itself, bad weather having been met with at the Club's fixtures. It was decided to reply stating that the club could not see its way clear to contribute. The New Zealand Country Racing Clubs’ Association wrote stating that at the annual meeting held in Wellington, the Executive was asked to appeal to country clubs outside the Association with a view to enlisting their support. The special desire was to extend the influence of the Association, which was a very useful lever to secure improved conditions for the sport. It was: interesting to note that Country Trotting Clubs were realising the benefit of such an Association, and this year there was an informal meeting of such clubs, and it was intended in future to meet annually prior to the Trotting Conference to consider amendments likely to affect the smaller clubs. The Association invited the co-operation of the Club in the matter. It was decided to hold the letter over pending the securing of further information on the subject. The secretary presented a draft balance sheet of the recent race meeting held in conjunction with the South Canterbury Jockey Club, which showed a substantial loss. The balance sheet of the Hunt ball showed a sn?all profit.
