Fortog said the Cinnabar moth had, been liberated in certain wheat-infected areas, and had given fairly hopeful results. He would give an indication as to further liberations as soon as it was known what supplies were available. Ashburton Roads. [I AL D. Jones (Mid-Canterbury) asked : whether it wa s a fact that, on account ) of the shortage of funds, the Highways > Board had cancelled the agreement for the construction of a bitumen road be- ■ tween Hinds and Rakaia. ■ ! The Hon. E. A. Ransom replied that : the Alain Highways Board had agreed - to pay a subsidy of £3 to £1 to the 1 Ashburton County towards the > cost of reconstruction and surfacing the Dunedin-Christchurch main highway be- • tween the Rakaia River and the Hinds, ' as and when funds were available, but jon account of prior commitments in i this district, it was unable to recomj mend the provision of Junds for the j work during the present financial year.
